Project background

At the start of the 2024/25 schoolyear i participated in a 24 hour gamejam with four friends. The theme for the gamejam was “stronger together”. This of course leads to a lot of people making co-op games just like we did but we wanted to try giving it a slightly different spin.

Concept

The concept of the game was two players each controlling one half of the player character needing eachother to survive. the story we came up with was two very petty wizards living together in a wizard tower that transformed eachother into animals, now needing to work together to become human again.

Gameplay

the two players each control either the mouse or the cat. The mouse has a shield that they can rotate to block enemy projectiles, the cat has a staff they can shoot enemies with. the enemies spawn randomly and shoot projectiles at the players as they move up and down.

Important contributions

The narrative

Once we had a basic idea for the gameplay i started working on how we could add a cute little short story to the gameplay to make it more appealing and fit better with the theme. With some help and feedback from the team i landed on the final version of the story and we started adapting the gameplay a bit to fit with the story.

enemy behaviour

I programmed the spawning of the enemies, their movement and their aiming for the player. all of these functions made use of coordinates and trigonometry to determine the enemy behaviour.

The Mouse

I programmed the moving of the mouse’s shield and the blocking of projectiles.
